Main page overhaul

Looking at other well-established wikias like http://clashofclans.wikia.com/wiki/Clash_of_Clans_Wiki and http://hayday.wikia.com/wiki/Hay_Day_Wiki, it seems we could have the front page contain big-button links to these categories:

  • Blueprints/Recipes/Equipment (in the form of a table with links to all classes of equipment)
  • Resources (this page should include both special and regular resources)
  • Furniture (this page contains summary info about bins, workstations, racks, chests, decorations, etc. and links to sub pages for more info about bins, workstations, etc.)
  • Workers
  • Heroes/Customers
  • Inn/Quests
  • Town/Buildings
  • Tips/Strategies/Guides

I don't think we need a link from the main page to the page about equipment quality.

We may also want to add two small sections on the right side about Announcements and Latest Game Updates.

What do you think?

I've been thinking about this for awhile, just haven't gotten into gimp to see what I can come up with yet.  Been busy making templates and formatting pages and what not.

Since we have a "The Town" (game screen) page, I was thinking it might be a nice idea to add "The Shop" (game screen) and "The Inn" (game screen) pages. (the last not to be confused with "Inn" (town building)) You then have locations to put most of the content that's right now stuffed on the frontpage but doesn't really belong there...

Once we agree on the structure, we can use placeholder pictures until there are better ones :) And I like the idea of splitting content by screens, it makes a lot of sense. Some things are split though: heroes/customers are shared between Inn (quests) and Shop (customer requests), special resources between Shop (to consume them) and Inn (to produce and collect them), and regular resources between Shop (collect and store) and Town (produce). My list had the Inn and the Town already, so how about merging Furniture and Workers into "The Shop", and keeping the shared elements like resources, equipment, and heroes in their own page? I also think that a typical use case for the wiki is accessing a blueprint quickly (ie less than a couple clicks/scrolls). So we should probably keep links to each class of blueprints. That would give us:

  • The Shop (links to furniture and workers)
  • The Inn (links to quests, special blueprints, special resources)
  • The Town (links to buildings)
  • Resources (links to [or lists] regular and special resources)
  • Blueprints (links to each class of blueprints: swords, maces, ...)
  • Heroes (lists a summary of each hero, and links to each hero page for more info)
  • Tips and Guides

How about that? Gentimouton (talk) 21:32, October 15, 2015 (UTC)

Looks fairly good, pretty much the same way I was thinking. Should we separate Shop information and worker information into their own separate pages? They both of a lot of information

It's not anything fancy, just reusing images directly from the game, but here is an example of what I came up with.  What do you all think?

Button Inn

Albryant (talk) 00:08, October 16, 2015 (UTC)

That button looks very nice, let's use it :) And yes, there are two different pages for the shop and the workers. The Shop page should have a quick summary of the workers and a link to the Workers page for more info. The workers page should link to the Shop page. Let's get to work then!

Okie dokie, if no one else has any objections, thoughts, or suggestions then I'll start making buttons for each of those pages over the next few days. Luckily the weekend is right around the corner so there will be plenty of time to do it.

Be careful about having image links without text links, for accessibilty reasons you will also want to provide text links. - Edit: never mind they got added yay -- Soltanis (talk) 19:20, October 16, 2015 (UTC) - Edit2: Missing again, could you please add text links back in please. -- Soltanis (talk) 06:56, October 17, 2015 (UTC)

By design a wiki is always under construction, under construction prompts or images should not be needed.

-- Soltanis (talk) 19:16, October 16, 2015 (UTC)

Hey Soltanis, the construction images added by USer:Albryant have been removed (by himself probably). I also added the links for accessibility. Feel free to change any wiki page yourself next time :)

Customers or Heroes

Does the game ever refer to Heroes as customers?

I know the player is introduced to them as "customers" first and then later given the options for adventuring. But I don't remember ever seeing them being refered to as customers, at least in latest builds.

Were they refered to as customers in earlier builds?

-- Soltanis (talk) 19:25, October 16, 2015 (UTC)

I think the "Heroes" screen used to just not have a title and we assumed they were customers, but at this point I can't remember. I didn't notice they were called Heroes until you said that so it must be new.

Game News sidebar

I added a game news sidebar. It floats, which means if the screen is too small, it'll go to the bottom. My problem is that it's floating in the center-right of the screen, not the top-right corner. Any clue how to fix that? Please have a shot at it if you can fix it :) Gentimouton (talk) 03:51, October 20, 2015 (UTC)
